Washington, NC — The Diamond Engine Shield EX has been nominated for the “Coolest Thing Made in NC” competition. Sesame Technologies, Inc. joins 145 manufacturers that have been nominated for this year’s competition, including John Deere, Cheerwine, and Bobcat. Previous finalists include Strep by Fjord Inc. and HondaJet Elite II.

The Diamond Engine Shield EX is a revolutionary aircraft engine protection device designed to be safely installed by a single crew member from the ground, reducing the need for ladders and increasing personnel safety. It is designed to protect private jet engines from foreign object damage and harsh weather conditions on the ground during storage and maintenance. The shield’s resilience to harsh conditions has been tested through wind, water, and impact destructive testing, which has revealed its capability to weather the storm.

The shield is constructed from premium materials, including carbon fiber, high-temperature silicones, and stainless steel. It features a collapsible design, allowing quick storage during flight, and is installed with a unique pole that locks to prevent accidental drop page.

The contest spotlights North Carolina’s cutting-edge manufacturing industry — an industry that generates more than 17% of the gross state product and employs more than 10% of the state's workforce.

“Congratulations to our 2024 nominees; each product tells a special story of the impact and innovation manufacturers have on our great state,” said NC Chamber President and CEO Gary Salamido. “As we always say at the NC Chamber: what’s made in North Carolina makes North Carolina.”

In 2020, the NC Chamber launched the “Coolest Thing Made in NC” competition to celebrate North Carolina’s vital manufacturing community – and champion the next generation of manufacturers and creators by raising awareness about the rewarding careers of modern manufacturing. Last year, the online contest began with 130 nominees and after three rounds of public voting totaling almost 50,000 votes, CR Onsrud’s Q-Series5-Axis CNC Machine and Fjord Inc’s Static Rope Edge Protection earned the top spots.

This year’s contest boasts its highest number of nominees, topping last year’s record of 130 nominated businesses.

Go to coolestthingmadeinnc.com to vote daily for the Diamond Engine Shield EX; the 15 semifinalists for each category will be announced Thursday, September 5. The field of candidates will narrow with each round of voting, and the winning products will be revealed on Thursday, October 3, the day prior to National Manufacturing (MFG) Day.

Join the contest’s social media campaign by following #CoolestThingMadeinNC. In addition to receiving a trophy, the victorious company and product will be featured in NC Chamber and Business North Carolina publications, podcasts, social and digital media, among additional statewide publicity efforts.
